Abstract

Laura Esquivel’sfirst novel, Like Water for Chocolat was published in 1989. It was first appeared in Spanish language, entitled as Como Agua Para Chocolate1989. Later it was translated into English in 1992. This novel was also adapted as a film in the year 1993. The title of the novel is,‘Like Water for Chocolate: A Novel in Monthly Instalments with Recipes, Romances and Home Remedies’. It is written in a cookbook style. It is divided into twelve chapters and each of them begins with a monthly recipe. All the recipes appear to be from the author’s own experiences in her own family and those are interwoven in her novel, Like Water for Chocolate.
