Abstract

In this study, the topic of undesirable student behaviours, which is always a matter discussed by teachers, is examined. The aim of this study is to investigate the undesirable student behaviours, their causes, the intervention methods to these behaviours, and the recommendations to deal with these behaviours stated in the qualitative studies through the meta-synthesis method. The data obtained by the document review technique was subjected to content analysis, and new themes and sub-themes were analysed in this direction. According to the content analysis results, undesired student behaviours encountered in higher education institutions were divided into five themes, which could be defined as "behaviours that prevent learning of themselves and their friends", "behaviours that prevent them from learning themselves", "behaviours that put safety at risk", "behaviours that harm people and tools" and
"behaviours that prevent socializing with other students". The causes of undesirable student behavior are divided into two themes: out of school factors and in-school factors. Out-of-school factors arise from family, environment and community culture, formal education, while school-related factors arise from education and school management, students and teachers.
