Abstract

The purpose of this study is to develop a valid and reliable assessment instrument which evaluates the learning
styles of 5-6-year-old children. The sample consists of 270 children of 5-6 year-old age group having education in nursery
classes of 14 different schools. As a result of the statistical analysis performed it has been seen that the scale consists of a 27-
item and three-factor structure and that the variance ratio explained by these three factors is 64%. Croanbach Alfa
coefficients of internal consistency of “Learning Styles Scale for 5-6-year-old Children” have been calculated as .95 for the
whole scale. The test-retest reliability correlation coefficient of the scale has been found as .85. According to t-test results
performed for the differences between items’ means of upper 27% and lower 27% of the group points, it has been determined
that all differences are in support of the upper 27% group. In the light of these findings, it can be said that “Learning Styles
Scale for 5-6-year-old Children” is a valid and reliable assessment instrument
