The Concept of Curriculum in the Pre-service Teacher Education Course Contents

Abstract

The purpose of the study was to analyze how the concept of curriculum taken into consideration in the pre-service teacher education course contents. As a qualitative study, data were collected through document analysis. The main data collection source of this study was the Pre-Service Teacher Education Curricula Guide published by the Council of Higher Education (2007). Among 21 pre-service teacher education program, 11 of them (Classroom Teaching; Elementary Mathematics Education; Elementary Science Education;
Social Studies Teaching; Turkish Language Teaching; Computer Education and Instructional Technologies; English Language Teaching; Art Teaching; Music Teaching; Physical Education and Sports Teaching; and Elementary Religious Culture and Moral Education was reviewed. The results indicated that the courses related to the concept of curriculum usually focused on different aspects of the field-specific curriculum, in particular on the implementation process, and most of them were theory-based courses lasting for only one- or twosemester.
