Abstract

In addition to paving the way for the acquisition of knowledge, skill and attitudes enabling
students to use Turkish in a correct, good and effective manner, another function of Turkish-language lessons is
students’ attainment of democratic values, attitudes and beliefs as well as awareness of values which they have.
Therefore, along with the improvement of linguistic skills, value education is also of vital importance with
respect to the attainment of intended values at Turkish-language lessons. The purpose of this study is to reveal
the meanings that pre-service Turkish-language teachers assign to the notion of value, and to uncover the value
ranking of pre-service teachers in question. The scope of this research is comprised of pre-service Turkishlanguage teachers studying Turkish Language Program at Adıyaman University. Within the context of screening
model and based on data collected by means of open-ended questionnaire, this research attempts to describe the
meanings assigned to the notion of value and the value ranking by pre-service Turkish-language teachers.
Content analysis, one of the qualitative research methods, has been used for data analysis. The obtained data
have been interpreted with a presentation of tables together with frequencies and with direct quotations from the
