Examination of the Current Situation Regarding Interdisciplinary Teaching in Primary Schools

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to examine the current situation regarding interdisciplinary teaching in primary schools based on the opinions of teachers. In the research, case study among the qualitative research patterns is used. In collection of the data, observation and form for taking written opinions are used. In the research, one of the qualitative data analyses, the descriptive analysis is used. 23
class teachers working in primary schools of Karakocan district of Elazıg province in the academic year of 2014–2015 constitute participants of the research. Criteria and maximum variety sampling methods from purposive sampling methods are used in the research. When identifying the teachers, whose opinions are taken in writing, criteria sampling and when identifying the teachers to be observed among these teachers, maximum variety sampling methods are used. As a result of the research, it is seen that the teachers pay attention to associate a concept, subject or theme with different disciplines and have experienced lack of time problems when implementing the interdisciplinary teaching approach. The teachers suggested that for the problems encountered in the interdisciplinary teaching approach, the curriculums should be arranged by taking into account this approach. In the observations, it is seen that teacher A1 implemented the interdisciplinary teaching approach very well, teacher A2 could not implement and teacher A3 implemented incompletely.
