Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the assignments that school administrators did not actually have to perform according to regulations, but that they thought they must and the methods they applied to carry out such kind of assignments. The study was designed in qualitative method and maximum variation and criterion sampling as purposeful sampling methods were applied to determine the study group. Therefore a total of 21 school administrators employed in Ankara and Sinop provinces in 2012-2013 academic year participated in the study. A semi-structured interview form developed by researchers was used in the study. Descriptive analysis was performed to analyze the data. Results revealed that school administrators were busy with a lot of timeconsuming assignments out of formal ones and educational activities and that such reasons as shortage of staff, mistakes in applications, insufficient planning caused these assignments to appear. Finally it was possible to suggest that Regulation of Primary Education Institutions should be revised to make school administrators' job definitions become clearer, required financial support should be enabled to schools and plans and policies of future had better be maintained in a more systematic way.
