Abstract

It is assumed that academic research published on educational leadership and administration is
important in revealing the current situation as to how the educational systems of countries are led and
administered and in making predictions regarding the future. This paper is intended to examine the studies in
the journals of Education Administration Quarterly (EAQ), International Journal of Educational Management
(IJEM) and School Leadership & Management (SLM) published in 2012 in terms of their purpose and
methodology sub-headings. The study group comprises the papers published in 2012 in EAQ, IJEM and SLM
journals. The research data were collected through document analysis and analyzed with descriptive analysis.
Themes in this study were determined beforehand as purpose/topic, research design/method, study group
and data analysis. The results have shown that in educational studies, qualitative research has gained more
prominence in recent times and that the effects of different dimensions of educational leadership on school and
student outcomes, teacher leadership, school climate, administering the differences, the evaluation of new
educational policies and improving schools have been chosen as primary research topics
